Fourteen thousand words

Fourteen thousand words
By Jon Slone

I am very at home in a movie theatre. I am a very visual person. Combine those two things with the old adage, “A picture’s worth a thousand words,” and you will appreciate the rationale behind this post.

Here are some of my favorite images from movies and television. Pictures that blew me away, fanned into flames, my creativity and had an overall lasting influence on my life.

If I had to pick a favorite, I would probably go with Mr. Jones being chased by a bolder. How can you beat that timeless portrait.

Enjoy!

  1. Very nice, sir. I agree with a lot of what I see here. I will, however, only give you the 70's King Kong on sentimental value alone as it was a terrible film, but I can understand if it was great when you were younger. Some that I truly love are the first time you see the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, the Deloreon from Back to the Future vanishing in a trail of flames, the Marshmellow man from Ghostbusters, the girl crawling out of the tv in The Ring (Even if you hate that movie, you can't deny that that isn't seared into your mind.), the predator and Arnold having a stare down in Predator, and Andy Dufresne crawling out the tunnel to freedom in The Shawshank Redemption as the rain cleanses him. Such great stuff. I completely agree that movies are worth so many words for so many reasons. Everyone can remember a time, while watching a movie, that your heart sank or you jumped in your seat or you wanted to clap and cheer for these people that you've been merely watching. It's those moments that you remember and it's those moments that are worth so much.

  2. I like it! I also like the Emma Thompson character when she can't contain her joy when Hugh Grant's character tells her he's not married in Sense and Sensibility. I also LOVE the last scene in The Descendents with George Clooney and his daughters. Love that.

I like it too....all these are my favorites and I have to agree with Becky, when Emma Thompson is overcome with joy and sobs even though she doesn't want to, it gets me every time...and E.T.which I watched the other night fir the first time in a long time....still just as good...Aliens has to be one of my all time favorites....that little guy coming out of his chest is a winner for me...you know how I love that...and Star Wars and the Hulk..and Wonder Woman....Its really amazing how much joy you can get from movies and remembrances too....
